Elite Spearfisherman and Bahamas’ freediving National champion, Luke Maillis, takes us spearfishing off the coast of Long Island using only ‘primitive gear’ made up of a Hawaiian sling and pole spear. Luke, who leads the Bahamas National Spearfishing Team, cultivated his underwater skills growing up in a family of freedivers on Nassau with hopes to better his abilities as a fisherman. Now, living on the ‘out island’ of Long Island, home to the world’s deepest saltwater blue hole that he lost his brother to in a tragic freediving accident, Luke harnesses the skills and techniques he’s learned as a diver and a hunter to evolve the art of spearfishing.
