Nestled into the cliffs of the easternmost point in the United States, ‘Maniac’ is a 5.13d rated climbing route, established and ascended in the mid 80’s, and only repeated four times since. At the time of the route ’ s inception it was one of the only sport climbing routes in the country, and achieved a rating ranking it amongst the most difficult in the world. In years since , many routes have been established throughout the country , and the world, yet the list of climbers to successfully ascend this cliff just outside the sleepy town of Lubec, Maine is limited to a very few, including Alex Honnold and Hazel Findlay, some of the most well - known and accomplished athletes in the sport. Today, New England - based climbers Michael Larson and Jay Conway set out to add their names to that short list.
